RECOVERED OR RECOVERING?

Ah yes, the age-old question as old as the Twelve Steps themselves.  Do we ever fully recover from our addictions or are we always in a process of recovery?  What does our recovery fellowship members say about this compared to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous?  You may be surprised.
Join Toni, Bruce and the Monty’man as they welcome some special guest to the studio, Walter and Harlen for this controversial topic.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL JUNKIE

We tend to think that drug addicts and alcoholics come from backgrounds of major dysfunction, homeless, parents that were abusers or at the very least the addict had a horrible life as he or she grew up.
Would it surprise you to know that many times there is no history of these stereotypes? In fact, thousands of those living with active addiction came from wonderful homes, amazing parents of faith and had a bright future ahead of them.
So what happened? This week my guest is a young man who came from just such a home and yet his drug addiction spiraled out of control into a world of pain, fear and shame. Now, however, he lives free from the bondage of addiction and walks in service to God and his fellow man. Join the Monty’man for his interview with Stephen R. A truly amazing young man of integrity.

Closed Meetings

Get ready for a controversial show and the can of worms that may be opened during the show. This week’s topic takes a look at what Alcoholics Anonymous considers as “Closed Meetings”.
What is a closed meeting according to A.A.? What is an open meeting? Do they contradict each other? Is there confusion here even in the printed page of A.A.’s Website? Or are we just splitting hairs? You be the judge. Perhaps we protest too much.

Dr. Gerald Fishkin offers empirical analysis of the genesis and influence of shame and negative self-talk on mental health in his ground-breaking book, The Science of Shame and Its Treatment.
“Shame has been the elephant in the corner of the clinical office that nobody wanted to talk about”.
It’s time to shed the light on this dark corner.
