STEP SEVEN REVEALED

Step Seven states, “Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings”. Why is it important to have God remove these shortcomings? What are shortcomings and are they the same as character defects? Rest & Joy

Rest can lead to joy because it creates a new perspective in us. Rest reminds us that we don’t have to be compulsively responsible for the world and everything in it. Rest reminds us that God is in charge.

Rest & Strength

It’s extremely difficult to get proper rest when we live as though we have everything under control. Only God has that ability. When we try and fix EVERYTHING and EVERYONE we drown out God’s voice and it’s His voice we need to hear to receives the proper rest that our recovery requires.

Rest Without Compulsion

As important as rest is to those of us who just have to stay busy all the time, God has no intention of putting yet another request on our already busy plate. Rest was made for us, not the other way around. It is a gift from our creator and we need to receive it with willing hearts in order to be healthy.

Seeing Rest As God’s Gift

As difficult as it is for us to accept that God wants us to “Take It Easy”, we don’t seem to find it hard to believe that God wants us to struggle and fight to stay busy and occupied all the time. Nothing could be further from the truth. As we look at rest as a gift from God we can begin to see the importance of it in our recovery, in our personal lives and even in the workplace.
