Resigned to Addiction, Reconciled to God

THE VICTORY REPORT (Resigned to Addiction, Reconciled to God)

At age 13 our guest used methamphetamine for the first time. In two years he was up to his neck in legal issues, Jail, Probation including committing burglaries. Every relationship was surrounded around active addiction. It appeared that there was no threat of consequence that would stop Preston form a journey of self-destruction. Though Preston promised himself he would never use a needle, after High School I.V. drug use became the delivery method for the meth he was abusing. Alienated from his family and friends and surrounded with criminal felony charges, Preston heard the testimony of a former heroin user and something began to change in his thinking. Was this the hope he would find amid his hopelessness? Join the Monty’man and Denver Wolfe for this powerful story of experience, strength and hope shared on the episode of the Victory Report. A presentation of Take 12 Recovery Radio in cooperation with Teen Challenge of Arizona.

Sticks and Stones

THE TAKE 12 RECOVERY RADIO SHOW

Topic: Sticks & Stones, the Profanity, and the Profane.

‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me’ is a stock response to verbal bullying in school playgrounds throughout the English-speaking world. It sounds a little antiquated these days and has no doubt been superseded by more streetwise comebacks. A response to an insult, implying that “You might be able to hurt me by physical force but not by insults”. But as men and women in recovery we know this to be anything but true. Word’s are powerful, they hurt, traumatize and can even lead to death. The profanity and the profane simply do us no good. Closing Song: Sunny Day by Tom Storms www.tomstormsproductions.com

Cleaning Up the Wreckage of Our Past

THE TAKE 12 RECOVERY RADIO SHOW presents

Entitled to Overcome (Solutions for Life, Today)

Cleaning up the wreckage of our past is something that people who are in long-term recovery make as a priority in their Twelve Step process, specifically in Step Nine as we make amends to those we have harmed. Sometimes this happens without incident, and other times it can be extremely stressful and challenging. We asked our listeners to share with us how long it has taken to clean up the wreckage of their past and what was their most grateful experience in doing so. Do We Really Need a Sponsor?

THE TAKE 12 RECOVERY RADIO SHOW
Topic: Do We Really Need a Sponsor

The question has been asked: If you have a Big Book and you can read, why would you need a sponsor?

“Any A.A. who has not experienced the joys and satisfaction of helping another alcoholic regain his place in life has not yet fully realized the complete benefits of this fellowship.” (A.A. Sponsorship Pamphlet.)
Question: What does the A.A. Big Book reference 123 times in the first 88 pages?
Answer: Alcoholics working with other alcoholics. This specifically means two alcoholics working together, putting the A.A. Program into action.
Some members call this sponsorship, being a spiritual advisor, a mentor, a trusted friend. Whatever you choose to call one alcoholic or one addict helping another walk through the Twelve Step process, one thing is for sure, we need each other, and it is irresponsible of us to think any newcomer can walk through this process alone. Tune into this show as we discuss the question, “Are Sponsors really needed?”
